Land Acknowledgment:

Restore Child and Youth Care operates on the traditional lands of Treaty 6, 7, and 8 in Alberta, home to diverse Indigenous Nations and Métis communities. These communities have long cared for the land and continue to be its stewards. Acknowledging the land honors their traditions and the respect they have shown for it. We recognize that our ability to thrive on this land is due to the ongoing care and respect of Indigenous peoples, and this acknowledgment extends to our work with Indigenous children, youth, and families.

About Us

We believe in a holistic, integrative approach to supporting children and youth in their journey of healing and growth. By blending modern techniques, medical care, and Indigenous healing practices, we provide a nurturing environment that encourages flourishing on the land. Our approach includes:

  • Modern Therapeutic Techniques We use evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, in-home therapy, to address emotional and behavioral challenges. These modern therapeutic methods help children and youth process trauma, build resilience, and develop healthy coping strategies.
  • Contemporary Medical Care Access to up-to-date medical treatments is essential to ensuring the physical well-being of children and youth. We provide regular health assessments, support for chronic conditions, and wellness check-ups, in collaboration with healthcare professionals, to ensure children and youth are physically healthy and able to thrive.
  • Indigenous Healing Practices Indigenous healing practices are deeply rooted in spirituality, community, and connection to the land. We incorporate sacred ceremonies, such as smudging, sweat lodges, and talking circles, as well as traditional teachings and storytelling. These practices foster spiritual growth, resilience, and a deep sense of belonging, helping children reconnect with their roots and cultural identity.
  • Trauma-Informed Care Our approach is rooted in trauma-informed care, ensuring that every child’s history and experiences are respected and understood. We provide a safe, supportive environment where children can heal at their own pace. Our team is trained in recognizing the signs of trauma and using strategies that promote healing through validation, safety, and trust-building.
  • Culturally Respectful Counseling We offer individualized counseling that respects and incorporates each child’s cultural background. By using culturally sensitive approaches, we can address challenges in a way that honors each child’s heritage, allowing them to feel seen, understood, and supported in their unique healing journey.
  • Mindfulness and Reflection We teach mindfulness practices and reflection techniques to help children develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and focus. These practices, such as their emotions, manage stress, and find inner peace.
  • Nutrition and Wellness Education We emphasize the importance of nutrition in supporting both physical and mental well-being. Children are taught about the connection between food, health, and energy. Our nutrition education incorporates both modern science and Indigenous knowledge, helping children understand the role of traditional foods in promoting strength and vitality.
  • Physical Activities and Outdoor Connection Engaging with the land is a key aspect of healing and growth. We encourage physical activities such as hiking, gardening, and outdoor games that promote fitness, teamwork, and connection with nature. Outdoor experiences allow children to bond with one another, learn from the environment, and gain a sense of peace and purpose through the land.
  • Basic Life Skills and Personal Hygiene We teach essential life skills, including personal hygiene, time management, and self-care routines. These basic skills are vital for independence and self-esteem, ensuring that children and youth can take care of themselves as they grow.
  • Indigenous and Societal Values We provide education on both Indigenous and societal values, teaching respect for all living things, responsibility, community connection, and the importance of cultural traditions. This education encourages a strong sense of identity and belonging, fostering respect for oneself and others.
